Summer Concert Series.

For the last couple of days I have perused band websites and looked at tour dates.  It is my firm belief that summer is the time for music exploration.  Well, not entirely true.  Music exploration is a year round endeavor, however, there is a certain withstanding correlation between summer and music.  It is the time of all the great festivals.  Music magazines have their summer editions where they discuss what festivals to attend, the venues and artists.  This is the time to cash in on fans being out of school and spending their summer earnings.  When I was living in Iowa, we would get a handful of artists come through Iowa City.  Rarely did we have larger name bands and had to satiate ourselves on the local cuisine.  When more brand name musicians came they often went through the University, raising the ticket prices at a steep incline.  Or they would book in Des Moines or the outdoor pavilion in Council Bluffs.  Even with the lack of drawing power, I have some very wonderful memories of bands that did decide to stop off in the middle of nowhere.  I saw The Format (2x), Paramore, fun. (2x), Taking Back Sunday (2x), Fall Out Boy , The Honorary Title, This Day & Age, Steel Train, and Reuben’s Accomplice.  However, I have to say that I am happy that I am in the Chicago area for this summer.  I already have a few shows I am attending, and it’s just the beginning.

What shows are you going to see?  Who has been your favorite musician/band live?

My schedule: 6/4 Addison Park (Goose Island), 6/6 Iron & Wine (Millenium Park), 6/8 fun. (Riviera), 6/11 Jarrod Gorbel (Beat Kitchen), 6/17 Farraday (Durty Nellie’s), 6/26 Matt & Kim (Vic), 6/30 He is We (Beat Kitchen), 7/1 Farraday (Metro), 7/8 Sun Kil Moon (Lincoln Hall), 7/23 Farraday (The Cubby Bear) with option 8/24 The Hold Steady (Turner Hall, MKE).
